Officially Lost My Mind

I have officially lost my mind.

But it's really all Amy's fault. You might remember her as the Old Soap Crone from this post. I happened to check in on her today and found that she has suddenly become prolific, like another Denver blogger whose blog I love to read. What was going on here?! Two related yet different events. Kitt's into NaBloPoMo, while Amy's hosting NaBloWriMo. All roads lead to NaNoWriMo, which is an annual (November) novel writing project that brings together professional and amateur writers from all over the world.

These acronyms, if they can be called that, remind me of Crooked Man. He washed cars for a lot of people in our building, as well as in the area, way back in the 70s. He would complain about having to spend extra time on our car. My Dad always parked it under a tree, to make the most of the shade in the concrete jungle that was Colaba. What else would one do with a black car? I even remember the licence plate. BMH 4126. A black Fiat. Crooked Man would say in choice Bumbaiyya Hindi, even though he knew he could communicate better in Marathi with my family: Kayko udhar gaadi park kartay. Udhar kavva hagtay. The joke is pretty much lost if I translate it. You need to know at least some Marathi and some Hindi to appreciate it. But for the benefit of those who don't know either or just know one: Why do you park there? The crow poops there. Not very funny anymore. Well, he washed my cousins' car, too. Four mean, very mean boys who have all grown up into handsome, loving men. How that transformation occurred, we still don't know. They called him LoPoSloMo, short for Lower Portion Slow Motion.

Now that I read over it, none of this is very nice. But as kids we didn't realize we were being mean. And that here was a lonely man, trying to make a living from washing our cars.

So, almost as if in penance, I have to blog everyday through October, and I thought Amy might forgive me 10 days worth of posts, for being a late starter. But, no! She's greedy and wants me to write 31 posts through the month! And I said yes. OK, I asked for it!

I have officially lost my mind.

Let me Out of Here!

But I thought NaBloPoMo was in November?! Well, we love to read what you read any day of the month :)
I am toying with the idea of doing NaBloPoMo next month...truly a crazy idea though.

No way! You are going to write 31 posts in the coming 20 days?! It will make for some great reading, that I am sure of!

Now - I am looking for your kaale vatane recipe (I know it's in here somewhere) - how does one 'search' on bloody idiotic blogger? I don't see it in the entrees...or the munchies, or the desserts...quick - it is what's for dinner tonight.

Thanks, already :-D

so what's your theme? why don't yo let your camera 'write' for you? that's a lot easier me thinks.

Musical, yes, that's me. Except I was not cheering. I was screaming. It was a 'baby' ride - a bus that went up and down - and I screamed my lungs out. My tongue looks like it has dislodged from my mouth and that I might throw up any minute. I certainly felt that way. I hate ferris wheels, roller coasters and any ride, baby or not.

Padmaja, Sia, Roopa, let's see if I can keep up the quality along with the quantity!

Raaga, this is more to hone my skills of writing (quickly) but don't tell Amy that. And, yes, any and all tips are most welcome. I need all the help I can get!

Nabeela, I could do with a new comforter, too. One to hide under. You really know how tomake me feel good, don't you?! Please keep doing it! I need all the encouragement I can get!

Srivalli, I really shouldn't be doing this. I am in the middle of two back to back deadlines. I thought this would help me stay more focused on my tasks. I don't know what I was thinking!

Nupur, NaNoWriMo is in November. NaBloPoMo and NaBloWriMo are in October. Think of them as a practice session for the real thing in November. Click through to the pages linked in my post for more info. And, yeah! If anyone should do, NaNoWriMo, it should be you!

Anita, I am also thinking No Way. But it's worth a try, no? Nothing wrong with Blogger. There's a search box at the top right. And I have a menu in the right sidebar. There's just one prob with the latter, it's not self-updating and I forgot to include the recipe you are looking for in that list! You're the second person in the recent past to ask me for it. I will add it to the list.

Bee, my theme remains the underlying theme of my blog: food, family and fun. My camera will play a large role. Definitely!

TC, thank you! thank you! thank you! I thought it was pretty much a lost cause! I am so glad you got it!

Priyadarshan, duuuude! I knew I knew you. The comment is totally *your* style. But what is this new name? HKG retire jhale ka? I have to get head around this new name now!

At this point in the postathon, I don't know if I will be able to reply to everyone individually. I do always want to but if I don't, please don't take it personally, OK?!

Manisha only you could do this. I am so so looking forward to your daily posts. If even one of the 30 includes your father's jokes, I will be smiling all day! Good luck

Hey, thanks for the props! No word back from Amy yet, but I'm still blogging every day. Good for you for doing it, too! I'm looking forward to reading all your posts.

Carry your camera with you at all times. As Bee said, you can get a lot of mileage out of random photos.

It's kind of funny, you start looking at everything you see and do as blog potential. I walked the dog! I made dinner! I cleaned the porch! Voila, a post.

(My word verification for this comment is GO LIV. Truer words ...)

Yay! You can do it, Manisha. I have faith in you. It's fun!

And Kitt's in, too. Hooray!

Indian Food Rocks said...

Ashwini, I hope I can live up to all these expectations! The main idea is to have fun and I am so glad you are cheering for me!

Swapna, asle jokes bharpur aheth stock madhe. :-D

Pel, you don't want to go there. The joke is mainly because the verb is in one language and the tense is in another language. Worse still, it can't be called a language! Unfortunately, there's just no translating it.:-(

Kitt, I can't tell you how much I kicked myself for not having my camera with me today. I was waiting at the railroad crossing and this tremendous 4 engine freight train thundered by. The engines were imposing and the angle at which I could have taken a picture was just right. Each of the cars had mind-blowing graffiti art, too. I just had no camera! Never again!

Amy says you're in! So yay!

TBC, stay tuned!

Amy, root for me, girl! I need it! And yay for Kitt!

Heye Manisha,
V tried writing for NaNoWriMo somewhere in 2003 or 04. He wrote two posts and until today I don't see the next episode :)), though he keeps mentioning abt that.
I am very much interested to see what you will be writing everyday. Can't wait for it :).
