Drunken Orange

My neurologist brother-in-law is a great cook. He specializes in fish and desserts. He treated us to Sharabi Narangi and I couldn't believe just how delicious this simple dessert can be!

Drunken Orange

Before dinner, all he did was peel oranges, slice them, sprinkle powdered cinnamon and chill them. Come dessert-time, he put a few slices out on a plate, drizzled them with Cointreau and served them with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

It was so good that I had to stop myself from licking the Cointreau off the plate!

I've made a version of this with strawberries, orange flower water and framboise liquer - and it is yummy!

Incidentally, your recipe is a twist on a traditional moroccan salad, with cinnamon and orange flower water instead of the orange liquer.

Hi Diane! A traditional Moroccan salad?! How intriguing! Where do you buy orange flower water?

I think this recipe is from one of Madhur Jaffrey's cookbooks but without the ice-cream. The ice cream was my brother-in-law's idea.

Sharabi anything is a fab dessert if you ask me :-) Orange flower water is available at Middle eastern stores.

Ashwini, you're a girl after my own heart!

Thanks for letting me know where to pick up orange flower water. My daughter will be thrilled. She wondered what the fuss was about. A few slices of orange with ice-cream. :-D
