Does it have Chocolate Chips?

Ooooh! A cookie! With chocolate chips? Can I eat it?

A closer look revealed that the matter at hand was very complex. Those were not chocolate chips and it did not smell like one either.

It has a hole in the bottom! That's scary!

I stuck my nose into the depression. Mmmm! It smells di...iv...achoo...vine! My mind was spinning at the possibilities...

Chocolate chips? Cookie? Forget it! This is the Amritsari wadi.

What should I do with it?

There is Musical's Mooli wadi sabzi.
There is Anita's Wadi Aloo.
And a couple more.

I think I could make both Anita's and Musical's recipes, since this Amritsari wadi seems very potent! Yay! I can't wait for the weekend!!

Well, you could try dunking them in tea...lol

But, seriously, that is one good looking wadi.

You had me there...even I thought they were cookies...although I could make out that they were not chocolate chips...it's something new for me...have no idea about wadis...

Lol! I thought they were cookies with raisins in them. What is the raisin like thingy embedded in that wadi and where did you buy this from?

Hi Manisha,I thought it was Oatmeal Raisin cookies too!!:D Wadi!!Wish I had the recipe for that.I could make it at home in summer.

Btw,I found this site which has linked most of our posts without permission, just wanted to let you know.

I thought they were spicy cookies with peppercorns in them. Another new ingredient.

My tea was piping hot and ready when this came in! Medha was thrilled cos she thought it was a fat chocolate chip cookie. D was thrilled when he saw the cigar box it came in. Both lost interest quickly when they realized that it was for me! I wanted to try dunking it in my tea, but Anita, that would be a waste of a handsome wadi. I am sure it would also set my mouth and my insides on fire! I can't wait to try it out!!

Sunita, join the club! I first heard about wadis in Musical's and Anita's blogs and I have been fascinated ever since. So when a friend sent me this wadi, I was doing cartwheels (in my mind). Musical says they are available in stores here but aren't quite the same as the Amritsari wadi. So check it out the next time you are at the Indian store! And, welcome to IFR!

Shilpa, those are while black peppercorns. And these are courtesy of a benevolent friend. I am planning to make some in summer, if I can find a recipe. If I make them, I can send you some. :-D

Asha, every day I find out how little I know about regional cuisines. If I find a recipe, I will share it with you.

About enewss and sites like that: I don't have an issue with sites like that. They contain a snippet of our recipes and then send traffic over. It would fall within "fair use." Also, anyone can link to anyone else. You don't need permission to link to do that. When entire posts are copied, with or without acknowledgement and a link back to the source, that's when copyright issues creep in. For example, I have an issue with this which has been lifted from my previous post on green chutney. The owner of that site is Imran Hashmi from UK and his email address is: imran@professionaldesigner.co.uk (spambots, please feel free to harvest this email address)

Gini, they certainly look like it but they are much too hard to even attempt biting into!

I would have guessed a cookie with raisins!

I think your word verification knows who I am! It says rprpgyw. LOL

Sharmi said...

oh my !! you got me there. I was wondering why the cookie Got a hole LOL))))

Indian Food Rocks said...

RP, RP, Give Your Wig? Should I spank the word verification script?

Sharmi, that's what Medha was wondering and found it 'scary'. Don't ask me to explain that one. I have no clue!

I just made a batch of cookies too, but my chocolate chips were bigger, I don't know if that means anything, but I'm so glad you don't have any stray cat-hairs in that lovely photo of that yummy-looking cookie. Oh, go on... they're good dunked in tea! :-)

Indian Food Rocks said...

I use more of the mini morsels...which is why she thought they were chocolate chips. We do everything in the smaller size around here. :-D

I think I need a Toro Bravo before I attempt any dunking in tea!

Pelicano said...

That, or some tea before any dunking into the toro bravo!

Wadi's well well it is time to head to my Indian grocery store and take a look at those which look like a Choclate cookie but have to be cooked. Oh the pleasures of blogging!

Ha ha! i did think something was wrong with those cokkies ;) the so called chocolate chips/raisins looked suspiciously like kali mirchi :)). am glad you found good wadi. i am still looking for a good recipe for wadis, though people tell me all other stories associated with the "how to" of wadis!

Manisha I really thought you were writing about Medha. Wondering if they are available here in blr.

So I didn't cook it this weekend. Instead I attacked a pile of laundry that was threatening to compete with the highest peak in RMNP.

Amrtisari wadi, your time will come!

ISG, let me know if you find any authentic wadis. The word is that the wadis in the stores aren't as good. I heard this summer is going to be a scorcher. So apart from pickles, I could try to make these if I can find a recipe and some of that dried yogurt, too!

Musical, what does a soon-to-be 9 year old know? If you find a recipe, please share!

Anjali, those italicized comments are all Medha's. She must poke her nose into everything mine. As she walks by me, she tells me where I made spelling mistakes. "You're missing an apostrophe in the word don't." And, no, she didn't take lessons from Pel. I have to watch what I say over IM cos she's always watching over my shoulder. For me, it's CLOS not PLOS!

They do look like oatmeal raisin cookies. Never heard of amritsari wadis. Curious to know what you made with them.

[is speechless for a moment...just a moment; then he quickly regains his composure] That apostrophe is still missing! At least the recipe is present...

Medha rocks!

Madamoiselle Musique- yes, please, please, please...if you find a recipe for Amritsi wadis- any wadis... you're our only hope right now! Not meaning to put any pressure on you or anything.... :-D

where are the dang RSS feeds? why aren't your posts showing? i thought you had a temporary moratorium on cooking.

Indian Food Rocks said...

TC, nothing yet. Had plans fr it last weekend but decided to climb mountains instead. Check out the links in the post for pointers on possible recipes.

Pel, I read a recipe for mongodis somewhere yesterday. I can't for the life of me remember where! And it was very simple. But this here wadi is a whole 'nother animal. And, yes, Medha rocks my world all the time!

What is with dotting my landscape?! I have all my apostrophes in place. :-7

And thank you (not!), Anita, for the kind attention paid to excessive exclamation marks. If you were your own student, you would fail.

Richa, recipe chi waat bagath ahe!

Reena, to eat it just like that would need teeth of iron. It's quite hard. And nothing has been cooked with it as yet. Will post when I do.

Anjali, I have my speakers turned off. I don't like all the background music flun g my way. Not only does it slow the site down, it's not always to my taste. And sometimes it's just so loud that it makes me jump out of my skin. And that is hard to do, considering how much skin I have dot dot dot And that's another pet peeve. (Will Anita put music on her blog now? I wonder!)

Deepa, welcome and I hope to see more of you here!

Bee, what do you use? Use Bloglines. Number uppar jayega by 1. It will make Anita go green-er. :-D

i use food blog desam. yours doesn't show there. will subscribe to bloglines. i have a subscription, but i forgot my login and password.

I don't know how that aggregator is coded but I thought my blog was on the list. I check out Food Blog Desam only once a week or so. I prefer to manage my own subscriptions but FBD is good as I find things I might have missed.
